Experience/content/understanding/McDowell: Empirical content is only understood in a context that allows us to make a direct rational control of the mind insightful through the world itself.
It is impossible that a fact itself exerts an impression on a perceiver.
Nevertheless, the picture of the openness to the world expresses the idea of a direct access to the facts. Only that we cannot be sure in any case that there is no deception.
