Filter Bubbles - Philosophy Dictionary of Arguments

Filter bubbles: Filter bubbles are digital echo chambers created by algorithms, tailoring online content to users' preferences and past behavior. They limit exposure to diverse viewpoints, presenting information that aligns with users' existing beliefs. This selective presentation can reinforce biases, isolating individuals from contrasting perspectives and contributing to a narrowing of information sources and worldviews. The term "filter bubble" was coined by internet activist Eli Pariser in his 2011 book "The Filter Bubble What the Internet is Hiding from You."
