Exaptation: Exaptation is a term used in evolutionary biology to describe a trait that has evolved to perform one function, but is later used for another function. For example, feathers are thought to have originally evolved to provide insulation, but they later came to be used for flight. See also Evolution, Adaptation, Selection, Mutation, Darwinism.
