Counter-Enlightenment: Counter-Enlightenment thinkers typically rejected the Enlightenment's emphasis on reason, progress, and universalism. They instead emphasized faith, tradition, and particularism. Some of the most prominent Counter-Enlightenment thinkers included Edmund Burke, Johann Gottfried Herder, and Joseph de Maistre. These thinkers were critical of the French Revolution and other Enlightenment ideals. See also Burke, Herder._____________Annotation: The above characterizations of concepts are neither definitions nor exhausting presentations of problems related to them.
