William Paley (1743-1805), English clergyman, Christian apologist, philosopher, and utilitarian. His major works include Principles of Moral and Political Philosophy (1785), Natural Theology or Evidences of the Existence and Attributes of the Deity (1802), and View of the Evidences of Christianity (1807). He mainly worked on natural theology, ethics, and philosophy of religion.
