| Gerhard Gentzen (1909-1945), German mathematician and logician. His major works include Untersuchungen über das logische Schließen (1935), Neue Fassung des Widerspruchsfreiheitsbeweises für die reine Zahlentheorie (1938), and Beweisbarkeit und Unbeweisbarkeit von Sätzen der klassischen Analysis (1936). His fields of specialization were mathematical logic, fundamentals of mathematics, and proof theory.
