Carl Schmitt (1888-1985), German jurist and political theorist. His major works include Der Begriff des Politischen (1927), Politische Theologie (1922), and Staat, Bewegung, Volk: Die Dreigliederung der politischen Einheit (1933). His fields of specialization were political theory, legal theory, and constitutional law.
