Lewis Mumford (1895-1990), American historian and urban theorist. His major works include Technics and Civilization (1934), The Culture of Cities (1938), The City in History (1961), and The Myth of the Machine: Vol. 1: Technics and Human Development; Vol. 2: The Pentagon of Power (1967–1970). His fields of specialization were urban planning, architecture, technology, history, and sociology.
