Stephen Jay Gould (1941-2002), American paleontologist, evolutionary biologist, and science writer. His major works include The Structure of Evolutionary Theory (1977), The Mismeasure of Man (1981), and Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of History (1989). His fields of specialization were paleontology, evolutionary biology, and the history of science.
