Aimé Césaire (1913-2008), Martinican poet, playwright, and politician. Founder of the Négritude movement. His major works include Cahier d'un retour au pays natal (1939), Discours sur le colonialisme (1950), and La tragédie du roi Christophe (1963). His fields of specialization were Négritude, postcolonialism, and Caribbean literature.
