Gyges - Economics Dictionary of Arguments
Gyges: Gyges' ring in ancient philosophy is a thought experiment introduced by Plato in his Republic. The ring makes the wearer invisible, and Plato uses it to explore the nature of morality. He argues that if we could do anything we wanted without consequence, we would soon realize that we need moral principles to guide our actions. See also Moral, Ethics, Actions, Plato._____________Annotation: The above characterizations of concepts are neither definitions nor exhausting presentations of problems related to them. Instead, they are intended to give a short introduction to the contributions below. – Lexicon of Arguments.
