J.-J. Rousseau (1712-1778), Genevan philosopher, writer, and composer. His major works include Discourse on Inequality (1755), On the Social Contract (1762), Émile, or On Education (1762), and Héloïse, or Letters from Two Lovers (1761). He mainly worked on moral philosophy, political philosophy, educational philosophy, and aesthetics.
