Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005), French philosopher. His major works include De l'interprétation: Essai sur Freud (1965), La symbolique du mal (1960), Temps et récit (1983–1985), Soi-même comme un autre (1990), and Penser la Bible (1998). His fields of specialization were hermeneutics, phenomenology, ethics, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of language.
