Niklas Luhmann (1927-1998), German sociologist and philosopher of social science. His major works include Soziale Systeme (1984), Die Gesellschaft der Gesellschaft (1997), and Das Recht der Gesellschaft (1982). His fields of specialization were social theory, systems theory, sociology of law, economics, politics, religion, the arts, and the media.
