Samuel P. Huntington (1927-2008), American political scientist, adviser, and academic. His major works include The Soldier and the State: The Theory and Politics of Civil-Military Relations (1957), The Political Order in Changing Societies (1968), and The Third Wave: Democratization in the Late Twentieth Century (1991). His fields of specialization were political development, comparative government, international relations, and civil-military relations.
