Höffe I 141 Scholasticism/Höffe: The "scholasticism", which Thomas Aquinas led to perfection and which has admittedly often been reviled since early modern times, is a model of methodically guided scientific teaching and research. The quaestiones disputatae form a literary pattern: the thorough, thought-provoking debate of well-defined questions: The respective topic, called "quaestio" (qu., "question" or "investigation") is divided into the decisive sub-themes. In so-called articles the countless arguments of pro and contra (sic et non) known by authorities of philosophy and theology are presented and examined for their factual validity and methodological conclusiveness.
