Decay / superposition: in a component of the superposition the atom is still in the excited state and there are no photons in the other component, the atom is not excited and the field contains a photon in the corresponding frequency - N.B.: the atom is not in the inner nor in the outer orbit and the photon is neither absent nor in the field - probability: what decreases exponentially in time, is the probability that the system is "found" in a state where the atom is stimulated and no photon is in field.
