Love/Honneth: In the mutual recognition of their need and affect nature according to the basic pattern of love, individuals develop a positive relationship to their own needs, or the basic belief of being able to fundamentally trust their own need impulses. This "self-confidence" is the prerequisite both for "the ability to unbounded merge" with others and for the basic ability to be independent and "alone". (1)
Brocker I 797
Socialization/Social Relationships/Community/Honneth: for Honneth, such relationships of a "symbiosis broken by recognition", which "arises through mutually desired delimitation, form the basis for any "autonomous participation in public life" and "the psychological prerequisite for the development of all further attitudes of self-respect". (2)
This elementary form of recognition is formed in the relationship of love. However, this form "cannot be applied arbitrarily to a larger number of interaction partners". (3) The form of recognition of love is therefore "a necessary element of moral particularism". (4) Thus, its political-progressive potential (5) is limited.
