Jaron Lanier on Ideology - Dictionary of Arguments

I 92
Ideology/Digitalization/Lanier: In 2008, researchers from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the University of Washington presented at two conferences a procedure for a peculiar hacker attack, how to use a mobile phone to remotely turn off a pacemaker to kill its wearer.
Lanier: I refer to this as an expression of an ideology, because a carefully elaborated framework of argumentation supports this murderous behaviour, so that it appears great and new. If the same researchers had done something similar outside of digital technology, they would have at least lost their jobs.
