George Edward Moore on Naturalism - Dictionary of Arguments
Stegmüller IV 180 Naturalism/MooreVsNaturalism/Ethics/Stegmüller: the naturalistic ethicists commit the mistake of confusing the question of being good with the question of what things are good. --- IV 181 Moore: It could be that all and only the good things have certain feature combinations. This should not be used as a definition of "good", since one cannot conclude from the extension to the intension. "Good"/Moore: what the word names, is precisely the intension. So this word has to denotate a nonnatural quality. Descriptively, however, only the extension could be detected, otherwise this would be circular!_____________Explanation of symbols: Roman numerals indicate the source, arabic numerals indicate the page number.
