Adorno XIII 241 Materialism/Principles/System/Adorno: it is a continuous contradiction, which almost all consistent materialists are afflicted with, that they are forced by the consequence of the thought to derive everything that is at all, from a certain principle, namely the substance principle, as a supreme generality. But that matter is to designate what is not the principle, which is not the most general form of thought, but the not purely soluble in thought.
