Systems, philosophy of science: systems are compilations of rules for the formation of statements on a previously defined subject domain. Apart from the - usually recursive - rules for the combination of expressions or signs, the specification of the vocabulary or sign set of the system is also required. See also axioms, axiom systems, theories, strength of theories, expressiveness, rules, order, recursion, models, structure, system theory._____________Annotation: The above characterizations of concepts are neither definitions nor exhausting presentations of problems related to them. Th.W. Adorno on Systems - Dictionary of Arguments
Grenz I 26 System/Adorno/Grenz: the system is here the established bourgeois order, which "has fully functionalized reason". The independent rationality has become a "purposeless expediency," which for this very reason can fit into all purposes.(1). >Reason, >Totality/Adorno, >Whole/Adorno, >Rationality/Adorno. 1. Th. W. Adorno. Dialektik der Aufklärung, Philosophische Fragmente. Amsterdam 1947. p. 96. --- XIII 44 History/System/Adorno: the usual separation of the historical and the systematic is ineffective in philosophy. The historical overlaps and inconsistencies that arise between the concepts cannot simply be deferred to history as if it were something concept-less. >History/Adorno, >Historiography._____________Explanation of symbols: Roman numerals indicate the source, arabic numerals indicate the page number.
