Sigmund Freud: Sigmund Freud (1856 – 1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for evaluating and treating pathologies seen as originating from conflicts in the psyche, through dialogue between patient and psychoanalyst. Major works The Interpretation of Dreams (1899), Psychopathology of Everyday Life (1901), Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905), Totem and Taboo (1913), Introduction to Psychoanalysis (1917), Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920), Civilization and Its Discontents (1930).
