Psychoanalysis/Language/Ricoeur: I would like to stress at the outset that the psychoanalyst is, if I may put it that way, the taker in [the philosophical] debate about language.
Freud's intention: was not only to renew psychiatry, but also reinterpret the totality of psychic productions that belong to culture, from dreams to art, morals and religion. In this respect, psychoanalysis belongs to modern culture; by interpreting culture, it changes it; by giving it an instrument of reflection, it leaves a lasting mark on it.
