Hilary Putnam on Meaning Theory - Dictionary of Arguments

I (e) 145f
Meaning Theory/Putnam:
Def non-semantic/Putnam: the descriptive words of the object language and logical vocabulary are non-semantic.
>Object language
, >Logical constants, >Junctions, >Semantics.
Quotation/Tarski: these non-semantic words can be used to explain the meaning of "true". (Along with a set theory that is stronger than that of the object language).
Putnam: any meaning theory, i.e. every finite description is implicitly a truth theory for a language.
I (e) 146
Theory of Meaning/meaning theory/DavidsonVsTarski: you should proceed vice versa: instead of taking the object language as understood and wanting to explain "true", one should take the object language as what is to be explained and "true" as what is already understood.
Thus, every definition of truth in the Tarskian sense can be regarded as a theory of meaning for this language.
The reversal goes even further:
Every theory of meaning for a language, i.e. every finite description is implicitly a definition of truth for language.
>Truth theory.
