David Easton on Legitimacy - Dictionary of Arguments

Brocker I 498
Legitimacy/Political system/Easton: Legitimacy exists when the person believes that the institutionalized regime corresponds to his/her own moral principles (1). This form of diffuse support is mainly generated by socialization. According to Easton, it is the most stable form of support (2), since the regime is supported for its own sake, i.e. on the basis of the values and norms that the respective citizen prefers and to which, in his opinion, the regime of his own country corresponds to. See Political System/Easton.
