Evgeny Morozov on Education - Dictionary of Arguments

Education/Morozov: Digital technologies could be a perfect solution to some problems, but these problems do not include education - not if we understand education as the development of skills to critically reflect on a particular subject. Online resources could help students learn many new facts (or "facts" if they do not check what they learn on Wikipedia), but such facts are far from what universities strive to teach their students. Pamela Hieronymi, Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), stresses in an important essay on the myths of online learning: "Education is not the transfer of information or ideas. Education is the training that is necessary to use information and ideas." (1)
