Daisie Radner on Gender Roles - Dictionary of Arguments
I 99 Gender Roles/Rawls: Justice as Fairness evaluates a social system from the position of equal civil rights and the different levels of prosperity and income (see Roles/Rawls). However, there are natural characteristics that lead to unequal distribution of relevant positions and that cannot be changed, such as gender roles. Inequality/solution/Rawls: the principle of difference (see Difference Principle/Rawls) helps to mitigate inequalities: disadvantaged groups must always benefit from inequality. However, such inequalities rarely occur. In cases of conflict, the interests of a more general viewpoint outweigh the interests of a more individual position._____________Explanation of symbols: Roman numerals indicate the source, arabic numerals indicate the page number.
