Criteria: Criteria do not follow from a definition but must be developed. The criteria for the application of a concept to an object are more concerned with language practice in a community. E.g. the definition of truth does not provide a criterion for which sentences are true.

In: Skirbekk, Wahrheitstheorien Frankfurt/M 1996

Def Guaranteeing criterion/Rescher: a guaranteeing criterion logically excludes the absence of features - E.g. triangularity guarantees three-sidedness.
>Properties
, >Features, >Definitions, >Definability.
Def Entitling criterion: an entitling criterion is given if compliance is at best a rational justification, probable confirmation.
>Justification, >Confirmation, >Satisfaction.
Question: what is the relationship between "corresponds to the criterion for X" and "is actually an X "?
I 349
Criterion/Truth/Rescher: Problem: truth is not homogeneous - no single criterion is possible.
>Truth.
I 353
Since a criterion need not be linked to a definition, there is a potential gap between the correspondence with the criterion and with a definition
I 378
Criterion/Truth/Rescher: truth is not the starting point, but the objective.
I 379
I.e. the criterion assumes a coherence under internal orientation.
Coherence: Coherence is the key criterion.
>Coherence.
Problem: what conclusions should be drawn from an inconsistent set?
