| Sense Data Theory: The sense data theory holds that when we perceive an object, we are directly aware of a mental representation of the object called a sense datum. Sense data are supposed to be private and subjective, and they are not identical to the objects that they represent. I (c) 52 The distal theory removes the sense organs from their knowledge of the meanings and so from a vitally important theoretical position. >Proximal theory. The irritation of individuals can be no fixed points. By this we do not deny the causal role of the senses, but only a certain epistemological conception of this role.
