Subjectivity/Mbembe/Herb: Mbembe wants to go back to the phenomena. For Mbembe, the African subject is radically physically constituted and can only be understood in the context of an "ensemble[s] of socially produced, materially codified and symbolically objectified practices" (Mbembe 2016(1) 48). Mbembe wants to seek out the "places and moments" (49) of this social foundation of meaning. In doing so, he is aware that the "own regularity of African societies, their own raisons d'être and their relationship to nothing but themselves are rooted in a variety of times, rhythms and rationalities which, although characteristic and sometimes local, are not thought outside a world that has, so to speak, expanded" (53). >Society/Mbembe.
