Complex: a complex is composed of components that can be distinguished from each other and are relatively autonomous. Complex behavior refers to systems that consist of several components. The relative independence of the components is manifested in their behavior. Relative autonomy of the components is determined by the description of the complex as a whole.

Peter Geach on Complexes/Complexity - Dictionary of Arguments

I 103
Compound Expressions/Complex Terms/Relative Clause/Geach: Problem: no merely simple predicate corresponds to the relative clause; - it is ambiguous to whom "someone", "he" or "anyone" refers.
>Relative clause
, >Clauses.
Range: can be deceptive: E.g. A woman admired by all natives is beautiful/his wife.
>Reference, >Identification/Geach, >Pronoun, >Anaphora, >Scope,
Russell: a "denoting expression" must be radically paraphrased. - Geach ditto.
>Denotation/Russell, >Denotation/Geach.
I 106
Compound expressions/complex terms/relative clause/Geach: the relationship pronoun-antecedent is analogous to the relationship variable-operator - it is ambiguous.
>Ambiguity, >Variables, >Operators.
Solution: resolution by additional pronouns: "if", "and", etc. - ((s) It is not about unity, but about dissolving the unity.)
Symbolic Language/Geach: (e.g. set theory): a symbolic language can dissolve unity by definition: E.g. "y belongs to the class of Ps": differs depending on whether with equal sign or epsilon: >"for a class x, y belongs to x, and if something belongs to x, it is P".
E.g. wrong: "only a woman who has lost all sense of shame gets drunk".
>Formal language, >Extensionality.
Correct: a woman only gets ... when she..." otherwise it follows: "Men never get drunk."
