Corr I 350 Animal Studies/Gray: Following the emphasis of behavioural psychology on overt behaviour, Gray did not favour a research strategy based on a purely human and verbal source of information (e.g., self-reports of patients), but one that could be tested, via rigorous experimentation, in non-human animals: the goal of identifying the neural substrate for anxiety was, and largely still is, only possible with the use of experimental animals.
