Integration/Society/Hirschman: Hirschman thesis: The USA is built on emigration (see Terminology/Hirschman). It is a country of emigrants who have often left a lot behind to get there, which makes them particularly loyal citizens who believe particularly and particularly persistently in emigration from their own milieu as a means of social advancement. Hirschman sees the break with precisely this belief as the true revolutionary of the Black Power movement, a radical split of the civil rights movement of his time (1).
