Terminology/Ortega y Gasset: Ortega understands the "age" and "epoch" as a set of "circumstances" ("circunstancias"), constellations or situations in which the human has to live his/her life. Since circumstances cannot decide for the human, the human is historically situated.
Brocker I 195
Over-democracy/Ortega: "It is characteristic of the present moment (...) that the ordinary soul is clear about its ordinariness, but has the audacity to stand up for the right of ordinariness and assert it everywhere" (1). Ortega calls such a "brutal rule" of the masses or the average human "over-democracy".(2)
Brocker I 196
Mass Human/Ortega: See Human/Ortega.
Brocker I 197
"Principles"/Ortega: liberal democracy, experimental science, technical industrialism. These provide greater economic and physical security as well as the removal of old barriers and inhibitions.
