Government Debt/Political Theory: With regard to government debt, empirical studies show that left-wing governments do not systematically produce higher deficits and thus higher debts than right-wing governments in an international comparison (see, for example, Wagschal 1996 (1); Cusack 1999 (2)). At the sub-state level, the results are inconsistent.
