Höffe I 373 Inequality/Nietzsche/Höffe: In an early text, the third of five prefaces to five Höfe I 374 of his unwritten books, "The Greek State"(1), Nietzsche contrasts the basic democratic attitude of his time, the urge for "equality of suffering", the unique individual, the genius, with an outstanding artist or philosopher, perhaps also a scientist, but also the primeval figure of political leadership, the military genius. They all, he explains in deliberate provocation, need slavery to develop their creative powers. The early text does not only contrast the democratic idea of Höffe I 375 equality of all people with the intellectual aristocracy of creative artists. He also gets involved in the justification of a community that is forcibly reinforced, for which he sketches a political anthropology.
