Adorno XIII 241
Materialism/Principles/System/Adorno: it is a continuous contradiction, which almost all consistent materialists are afflicted with, that they are forced by the consequence of the thought to derive everything that is at all, from a certain principle, namely the substance principle, as a supreme generality. But that matter is to designate what is not the principle, which is not the most general form of thought, but the not purely soluble in thought. This contradiction has always prevented the construction of a so-called consistent materialism.
>Principles, >Matter, cf. >Intentionality.
