Synonymy is a suspect term. In another study, I point out that no two terms have exactly the same meaning.

III 192
> Synonymy: that all scores for a performance are coextensive, does not imply that they are synonymous: two coextensive characters c1 and c2 (not pitch) are not synonymous, unless two parallel compositions of them are also coextensive. That means, if the substitution of c1 or c2 by the other composite character k1 amounts to a character k2 with an extension that differs from k1, then it can be said with good reason that c1 and c2 have a different meaning. See also Terminology/Goodman.
