I (h) 207
Description/Putnam: the description creates no >synonymy. An identifying description could be wrong.
I (h) 208
"Direct Reference"/PutnamVs: descriptions do not create direct reference. There is no direct mechanism, the chains include linguistic communication and >linguistic division of labor. >Identification.

III 155
Description/Putnam: the "same situation" can be described as containing completely different numbers and types of objects (colored "atoms" alone or, colored atoms + "aggregates" of atoms). "Two black atoms and one red atom": three objects (the atoms), or: seven objects (the atoms and the different aggregates of two or more atoms).
III 156
How many objects are there "really" in such a world? Both description methods are equally "true".
It is an illusory notion that the term "object" has meaning regardless of how we count the objects and what we count as objects. The metaphysical term "all objects" has no meaning. Cf. >Description Levels.
