Thoughts/Davidson: thoughts can only exist when there are several thought-given beings.
Definition thought: A thought is a mental state whose content can be specified. For example, the belief that this is a piece of paper, the intention to speak slowly and clearly, etc. - thoughts depend on nothing outside the mind. Thesis: even in a totally different world, the thoughts could be exactly the same as now.
Every single thought about the nature of the world could be wrong. >Beliefs/Davidson, >Certainty, >Causal theory of knowledge, >Skepticism.
The only thoughts that escape this simple initial skepticism are our thoughts about our own thoughts. >Self-ascription, >Self-knowledge.

Corn bread-example: (Johanna knows a recipe for baking corn bread, which she considers simple). The content of the thought must be known. An individual cannot have any thoughts if it does not communicate with at least one other person, and this requires that both of them make use of a common world. >Communication.
