Definitions/Lewis: Let's suppose we are successful with a behaviorist operational definition. But nothing would be gained this way. For we would have to know what this means when we were to tell whether our definition was defining what it was meant to define.

If we did not know what it means that L is used in P, so we would not know what kind of behavior on the part of members of P would be an indication that L is used in P.
